An award-winning journalist, Vicki Adame spent 15 years working for various media outlets in California and Washington State.
As a reporter, she delved into the issues immigrants faced and brought to life the struggles encountered by minority communities. Her work covering the dilemma undocumented students in Washington State faced in their pursuit of a college degree led the Washington State Legislature to pass a law granting in-state tuition rates to undocumented students.
While working for the bilingual publication, Vida en el Valle, she and a photographer spent 10 days on the border between California and Tijuana talking to immigrants who had been deported, those attempting to cross through the desert and the organizations in Tijuana who provide refuge to those immigrants.
In addition to being an independent journalist, she has used her journalistic skills and training to write and place guest op-eds and columns and successfully get news coverage for organizations. In addition she has overseen and implemented social media strategies for various organizations.
Adame has also worked as the communications consultant for the National Association of Hispanic Journalists, where she put together a monthly newsletter for members and also sent all communications on behalf of the organization.
She also founded and served as the first President of the Bay Area Chapter of the National Association of Hispanic Journalists. In this capacity she successfully planned a regional conference and received grants and funding from various companies. She led the planning for the regional conference in Mexico City hosted by NAHJ in 2014. And was the programming co-chair for the national convention in San Antonio that same year.
She currently lives in New York where she is enrolled in the journalism masters program at the CUNY Graduate School of Journalism.
